Lyrics
It was a Tuesday, just a regular old day
when we cast our lines out to sea
I’ve been fishing since the day that I was three
like my dad and my Puget Sound family
The lines were soaking through the morn
When I heard a distant song
Now I’ve been warned to turn a deaf ear to such tunes
as the story always ends in death and doom
Besides, it’s Tuesday, what could possibly go wrong?
Our lines were tight and we were seven strong! Oh...
Chorus
The winds may blow and the seas will rise
and the spray in your face makes you feel alive.
Here’s to the haul and the one that got away-ay!
For we’ll catch you on the turn at the coming of the day!
We hauled the lines of board, one by one came in
and it was the expected fish and fin
‘Cept on the last line was the biggest fish I’ve seen
with the red hair and eyes of emerald green.
And then that fish began to sing.
She was the prettiest of things.
There we stood, seven strong, with jaws dropped low
as that siren smiled oh, so slow.
She combed her hair as a rolling fog moved in
We fell asleep with her voice taking wing. Oh, (Chorus)
I awoke with an aching in my head
with no sight of my sweet, singing ‘Red’
We searched the boat to find that she had got away
along with all our catch, our gear, and our mainstay.
No bait to set up on the lines.
No clothes, no hooks, nor drop of wine.
That green eyed beauty was a perfect storm it seemed
as she cast a singing line of salty dreams.
In all the years I fished I never thought it true
that the FISH could one day be fishing YOU! But.. (Chorus)
